Saudi OpenSource Hackathon 2025
Within the framework of the joint cooperation between the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) and the Digital Government Authority in the field of adopting free and open source software, and coinciding with World Software Freedom Day, this proposal has been prepared to hold the Saudi OpenSource Hackathon 2025 as a joint initiative aimed at supporting the achievement of national targets in the field of free and open source government software.
This event is expected to create a stimulating environment for attracting national talent and fostering creativity and innovation in the field of free and open source software, by providing an inspiring competitive environment for the development of innovative technical solutions and products. The proposal aims to consolidate a culture of joint innovation and build an effective digital community that contributes to the development of digital infrastructure and serves various sectors in the Kingdom.
This event also strengthens the strategic partnership between innovation centers in the field of free and open source software within the education and training sector and opens up promising prospects for investment in modern technologies. In addition, the event will provide an integrated platform for discovering and developing national talent, transforming their innovative ideas into realistic technical projects that contribute to supporting digital transformation and enhancing the Kingdom's competitive position regionally and globally in the field of technical solutions and products.
Objectives:• Contribute to achieving national targets in the field of free and open source software.• Develop innovative technical solutions to address the challenges of various government sectors and that can be reused by government agencies.• Develop existing products in the government software repository that contribute to solving challenges across various sectors.• Provide a competitive environment for developing innovative and sustainable solutions.• Promote a culture of joint innovation and build an active digital community.• Support partnerships between various sectors and investment in emerging technologies.• Empower local talent to transform their ideas into realistic projects.
Initiative Inputs:
• Creating reusable government products in the Government Software Repository
• Developing solutions to the challenges faced by government agencies for products in the Government Software Repository
Expected Outputs:• Building and developing software solutions that are compatible with the requirements of the Government Software Repository and are reusable• Official launch of the Free and Open Source Software Innovation Club and establishing a software repository containing the developed solutions for use by the Center's beneficiaries• Building interactive prototypes ready for testing, development, and investment• Forming specialized work teams capable of continuing to develop projects in the field of Free and Open Source Software
